All-American Cultivar-Specific Tips

Frankly Scarlet™ PPAF: This is a vigorous grower with moderate size blooms. Pay careful attention to spacing in order to avoid floppy foliage and stretched scapes (bloom stalks). Rebloom scapes tend to be taller. Consider cutting back foliage on a portion of the crop after initial bloom is done. Cut back another portion 3-4 weeks later. This will spread out rebloom, shorten rebloom scapes, and provide a more compact, fresher looking foliage mass. You may notice some baby plants (proliferations) developing on scapes after bloom. Prompt removal of these will hasten rebloom. Frankly Scarlet is extrememly heat and cold tolerant. It achieves its best bloom color in high heat, unlike other red daylilies. Hardy USDA Zones 4-10. All American 2003, Landscape category.

Plum Perfect™ PPAF: This is a vigorous grower with moderate size blooms. Performs best with partial shade in the hottest parts of Zone 9 and 10. Hardy USDA Zones 5-10. All American 2003, Landscape category.

Bitsy: Field-grown Bitsy adapts and performs well across all zones; is heat-tolerant and cold hardy. For containerized plants, take recommended heat/cold protective measures above. Bitsy blooms very early - a month before most of the winners (1-2 weeks before BES). Can become leggy with low light or crowded spacing. Hardy USDA Zones 4-11. *.

Leebea Orange Crush: Can be winter-tender in containers; provide protection as needed. More shade tolerant than most daylilies. Foliage looks best with a little shade during summer months. Blooms mid-season; 10 days later than Lullaby and Judith. Hardy USDA Zones 5-11. *

Judith: Thick bloom scapes and large blooms are more easily shattered than those of other winners. Blooms between early and mid-season; about 10 days earlier than Leebea Orange Crush. Hardy USDA Zones 4-11. *

Black-Eyed Stella: Field-grown Black-Eyed Stella adapts and performs well across all zones; is heat-tolerant and cold hardy. For containerized plants, take recommended heat/cold protective measures above. Blooms early season, before other All-Americans except Bitsy - which is 1-2 weeks earlier. Hardy USDA Zones 3-10. *

Lullaby Baby: Partial shade is recommended in hottest areas of USDA zones 9-11. Blooms between early and mid-season, about 10 days earlier than Leebea Orange Crush. Hardy USDA Zones 4-10. *
